SRINAGAR: A man impersonating a cardiologist at Lal Ded Hospital in Srinagar has been arrested.
Officials told that a man from Ganderbal who was impersonating a cardiologist entered the labour room where he talked to several patients.
They said the fake cardiologist had been telling most of the patients there to go for ECG and they would be shifted to SMHS. They said he wasn’t wearing any apron and had no equipment except a stethoscope.
The incident has given rise to concerns regarding the hospital’s security protocols and the patients’ safety.
An official of the hospital told that they have tightened the security and started an investigation to find out how this impersonator managed to gain unauthorised entry into the premises. He said that soon after they found an unknown person checking patients on Tuesday night, they called him to the Resident Medical Officer’s office where he was questioned.
When he failed to provide an identity card and any documents, we called the police and he was arrested, the official said, adding, “It seems the man was having mental health issues; however, police will investigate the matter and take action as per the law.”
He said the patients and attendants were assured that there was no need to panic as security had been enhanced—(KNO)
