‘Mamata will lose Bhabanipur like Nandigram’: BJP laughs off West Bengal CM’s contention in by-poll

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday laughed off West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s contention in the Bhabanipur by-poll and opined that she will lose the forthcoming election like she did in Nandigram earlier this year.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya said that Mamata Banerjee is staring at an imminent defeat in the by-poll scheduled to be held on September 30.

“Staring at an imminent defeat, Mamata Banerjee abandoned Bhabanipur and fled to Nandigram, only to lose to BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari.

How does she hope to win from Bhabanipur now?

She will meet the same fate as Nandigram in this by-poll. It is a contest BJP will enter to win,” he tweeted.

Malviya’s remarks have come a day after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) announced Banerjee’s candidature from the Bhabanipur seat.

Mamata Banerjee was defeated by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in the Nandigram constituency in the state Assembly polls held earlier this year.

Following this, the Bhabanipur assembly seat was vacated by the West Bengal Agriculture Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay in May, making way for Banerjee to contest from the seat.

The election on the seat is crucial for Banerjee to win if she has to remain the chief minister of the state.

The Election Commission has announced to hold by-elections to three Assembly seats in West Bengal on September 30.

These constituencies include Bhabanipur, the traditional seat of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, from where she will contest the by-elections.

Besides Bhabanipur, by-polls will be held in Samserganj and Jangipur constituencies. The counting of votes will take place on October 3.
