Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat & Tamil Nadu account for 79 % surge in new COVID cases

Government has said that five states – Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu continue to report a surge in the COVID daily new cases. Union Health Ministry said, more than 79 per cent of the new cases are reported from these states in the past 24 hours.

Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at over 15 thousand. It is followed by Punjab with one thousand 818 cases while Kerala reported over one thousand new cases, though Kerala is reporting a consistently declining trend over the last month.

India’s total Active Caseload has reached over two lakh 23 thousand today. The Ministry said, Maharashtra, Kerala and Punjab cumulatively account for 76.57 per cent of India’s total active cases.

The Ministry said, 16 States and Union Territories have not reported any COVID19 deaths in the last 24 hours. These include Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Jharkhand, Lakshadweep, Sikkim, Ladakh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
