With rise in demand of oxygen in Maharashtra due to the surge in Covid cases, state public health minister, Rajesh Tope has urged Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, to direct neighbouring states to supply oxygen.
In a review meeting on Covid held yesterday with the Union Health Minister, Mr. Tope also informed that daily more than 4 lakh people have been inoculated with Covid preventive vaccines in the state. He said, to control the rising number of infected patients in the state, vaccination is important which has gained momentum. Mr. Tope also said that the wastage of vaccine doses is relatively low in Maharashtra.
AIR correspondent reports, The Maharashtra health minister also reiterated the demand made by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give nod to inoculate people above 25 years of age. He said, it is observed that people in the age group of 25-40 years are contracting the infection more. He said, people in this age group have to step out of house for their work.
Taking this into consideration, people above 25 years of age should be prioritised for vaccination. Besides, he said that 1200 metric tonne of oxygen is produced in the state and 80 per cent of it will be utilised for medical use. He said, the states which do not need oxygen more should supply it to Maharashtra.
