Live For Others-Being Helpful Foundation (NGO) organises two day programme on “Menstrual Cycle A Taboo In Society”

JAMMU: Live For Others-Being Helpful Foundation (NGO) organised a two day programme at Govt. Degree College, Ramnagar in Collaboration with NSS UNIT GDC Ramnagar on the theme – “Menstrual Cycle A Taboo In Society”.
 This awareness programme was organized to raise the knowledge about menstrual awareness among youth. Dr.Madhu Balla (Guest Leacture) delivered an awareness lecture.
 1st day of the programme was conducted as Poster Making Competition in which participants did wonders in expressing their thoughts about Menstrual Hygiene, Menstrual Cycles and Menstruation Taboo in their posters. In poster making First , Second & Third prize winner were Ms. Deewankshi Sharma, Ms. Priyanka Sharma & Ms.Semrin Sharma respectively.
2nd day of programme was concluded as Symposium Competition in which participants openly discussed the stigma and shame generated by stereotypes around menstruation have severe impacts on all aspects of women’s and girls’ human rights. In symposium the winners were First (Mr. Pritam) , Second ( Ms. Manisha) & Third (Sukeerti Mahajan & Sneha). Prof Brinder Kumar, HOD Zoology and Prof HarmeetKour, HOD Botany acted as the judges for the symposium.
Mr. Vivek Parihar (Founder/Director of LFO-BHF) said “Our mission is to raise awareness on gender issues and bring it out in the open. Through our programmes, we teach young girls that their menstrual cycles are natural, a sign of good reproductive health and is something they have in common with girls in countries worldwide”.
Ms. Vidhushi Dhiman, (General Secretary Jammu Province) of the LFO-BHF while showing concern said that In India, menstrual health is still considered a taboo subject, leaving women exposed to misinformation and myths associated with menstruation.
Members who were present during this awareness programme were Sonal, Gourav, Keema , Aditya, Rishub, Rakesh and many more.
