On Thursday, the Board of Directors of J&K Muslim Specified Wakfs and specified Wakf Properties had a marathon meeting for three hours starting at Half past eleven in the morning and unanimously elected me as Vice Chairman of The Board and took a number of important decisions.
Thus the statutory requirement has been met and my moral authority is stamped.
For the last almost four months, I was requesting the Chairman to call this meeting. I realize he has a heavy workload. During this period, a number of journalists were seeking my interviews to know about the health of Waqf and my prescription to improve the same.
Similarly, scores of well-wishers and enthusiastic members of Kashmir Muslim Society were giving their sincere suggestions. I feel morally obliged to thank hundreds of known and unknown well-wishers for their support and goodwill.
Thanks are particularly due to Chairman of the Board, Jenab Khursheed Gania (IAS Retd), Muhtaram Maulana Shouwkat Keng, Dr Mohammad Shafi, Mr Ashraf Mir, Mr Showkat Masoodi, Dr Nazir Ahmad Wani, Muhtarma (Mrs) Altaf Sarvar and Muhtarma Gousia Jeelani ex Principal Session Judge and former Member of State Vigilance Commission for reposing their trust and confidence in me.
Muhtarama Jeelani and Mrs Sarwar deserve special mention for participating in several meetings with me for the last four months and guiding me in attending several legal matters and giving their valuable advice to run educational institutions of Waqf.
I also put my thanks on record for the help and cooperation of my officers and staff of the board who have worked with fresh zeal and hard work.
I have decided to act honorary and not to add to the already fat wage bill of the Waqf and not be a drain on the resources of Waqf on which the poor and needy have a first charge.
I request people to be watch dogs and correct me where I go wrong and also protect Waqf properties from being encroached.
