LEH: Rich tributes were paid to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his 128th birth anniversary today at Pologround Leh.
The event was organised by Ladakh Buddhist Association Youth Wing. Padmashree awardee Dr. Tsering Nurboo presided as Chief Guest.
Highlighting the work of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the Father of the Indian constitution, Dr. Tsering Nurboo said, “Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar was a social reformer and his fight for the betterment of the oppressed classes is exemplary. He always fought against discrimination and poverty, and worked for human progress and happiness”.
He asked students to get inspiration from Dr. Ambedkar’s life, who pursued the best of the education and worked for the welfare of the society, despite facing discrimination.
“Learning and following the principles propagated by Dr. Ambedkar is a real tribute to such a great personality”, he added.
Dr. Tundup Tsewang, Former President Ladakh Buddhist Association was awarded Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar award 2019 for his outstanding contribution towards the welfare of the society.
Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar award is given every year by the LBA to the one who excels in different fields, selfless motivation and work for the benefit of the society tirelessly.
Konchok Stak, President, LBA youth wing said, “The day is celebrated every year to commemorate Dr. BR Ambedkar’s work and contribution for the betterment of people of this country. I appeal everyone to follow the path showed by him.”
He also stressed on the importance of inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th schedule of the Indian constitution, which is a long pending demand of the people of Ladakh.
Ven. Shedup Chamba, President, All Ladakh Gonpa Association and Tsewang Thinles, President, LBA also spoke on the occasion.
Representatives from different religious organisations, students from different schools and many other dignitaries were also present.
