Jammu: Rebel member of the BJP, Choudhary Lal Singh, is all set to launch his own political party to contest both parliamentary seats of the Jammu region in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In an exclusive interview, Lal Singh, chairman, Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan, said the registration process had been started to launch his political party, which would save the honour of the Dogras.

Two-time Congress MP Lal Singh had joined the BJP on August 1, 2014, and contested Assembly elections from Basohli. He was later inducted as a Cabinet Minister in the PDP-BJP government in J&K.

But after the Kathua rape and murder case, he and his colleague Chander Prakash Ganga had to resign from the Cabinet. Lal Singh formed his own organisation under the banner of the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan after which he conducted many rallies. But he has not resigned from the BJP yet.

He was absent from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘maha rally’ on Sunday at Vijaypur. “I have not attended any meeting of the BJP after forming the sangathan,” Lal Singh said.

“We have applied for registration of our political party and will contest on both parliamentary seats of the Jammu region,” he added.

Lal Singh said the priority of his party would be ‘Dogras’ and ‘Duggar Pradesh’.

“We will fight for the due share of the Jammu region, which was always been given to Kashmir. Justice should be done with the people of Jammu and equal share should be given to the people of this region,” Lal Singh said.

He said if his party came to power, he would get six Assembly seats of PoJK refugees of Mirpur, Poonch and Muzaffarabad and two seats of the Kashmiri Pandits for Jammu, so that the region got its due share.

“There is no representation of Kashmiri Pandits in the Assembly, councils or panchayats. They should be given a separate council. Their funds are being used in the Valley and they are living in small rooms at the Jagti township. But our party will get them a separate council and two Assembly seats,” he added.

He said the government was befooling the Pandits by saying it would rehabilitate them in the Valley.

“Even if they make a separate colony for them, it will be cordoned by the police. Can anyone guarantee their safety in the Valley, where not even Omar Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah or Mehbooba Mufti can walk freely?” he questioned.

Sticking to his demand for a CBI probe in the Kathua case, he said the girl was the daughter of Jammu and they want justice for her. Demanding a CBI probe did not mean they were saving anyone.

“Whoever is the culprit should be hanged, but is the demand for a CBI probe unjustified?” he asked.

Regarding delimitation of Assemblies, he said Jammu had a much larger area as compared to Kashmir and only delimitation could empower the region. “We own 27,000 sq km of area against 16,000 sq km in Kashmir,” Lal Singh said.
