Kulgam encounter: 2 foreign JeM militants active since 2018 killed, encounter called off says IGP Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Two Pakistani militants of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces in Mirhama area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district police said on Sunday.

Officials told  that based on specific input regarding the presence of militants in the Mirhama area of Kulgam in south Kashmir, a cordon and search operation was launched by the security forces on Saturday.

As the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot during the operation, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately at it, which was retaliated effectively leading to a gunbattle, they said.

In the ensuing encounter, two militants of the JeM outfit were killed and their bodies retrieved from the site, the official said. Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said the slain militants were Pakistani nationals and belonged to the JeM outfit.

“Both the killed JeM militants are Pakistani. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition, including 02 AK rifles, 7 AK magazines, 9 grenades, etc were recovered from their possession,” IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar tweeted.
