Leech Therapy is organised on the day of Navroz-e-Alam. It is believed that leech therapy is much more effective on this day.

Navroz is the beginning of the Persian calendar. It marks the first day of the spring season in Kashmir. Also, people throng the practitioners of leech therapy.

People believe that Leech therapy has divine powers, and that it is being practised since the times of prophets to cure diseases. Many people consider leech therapy as a better alternative to other treatments.

The leeches are said to suck the impure or infected blood and cure skin diseases, and few other ailments, including arthritis, uric acid, and hypertension.
