JKT -the forgotten taxi series

When Jammu and Kashmir government organised its transport and motor vehicle department in early 1950s, the vehicle registration series began by ‘J&K’. As the vehicles grew in numbers, the series was bifurcated as JK A-F for Kashmir division and JK P-U for Jammu division. In this third phase, the bifurcation was made numeric as JK01 for Kashmir and JK02 for Jammu. Along the making of series, ‘JKT’ was reserved as special registration series for Taxis registered both in Jammu and Srinagar even as Kashmir had an additional series known as KMT. The ‘JKT’ and also the ‘KMT’ series was done away with in late 1980s. This picture is of 1986 in Srinagar
