JK Police foils Rehbar-e-Khel Teachers’ protest in Jammu

Jammu: Hundreds of Rehbar-e-Khel Teachers continued their protest pressing for their demands on Wednesday, as ReK teachers under the banners of Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Khel Teachers Association took out a protest march outside Press Club Jammu.

Previously, they had threatened to intensify their ongoing agitation, while appealing the Jammu and Kashmir administration to fulfil the promises made to them.

As ReK teachers began their march, the J&K Police swung into action and foiled their march. Later, Police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the protesting teachers.

Including male and female Rehbar-e-Khel teachers, the protest was led by Association President Dheeraj Salaria.

The protesters said that the administration of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s had promised them at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar on May 29, 2022 that their demands would be looked into.

As per the reports, the LG administration has recently proposed to de-freeze the posts which were frozen for Rehber-e-Khel teachers in the policy approved by the Cabinet. While, the former LG, G C Murmu formed a committee to find a way to ease the sufferings of Rehber-e-Khel teachers (reduce probation period from 7 years to 5 years as per ReT pattern and enhancement in salary) as it was technically next to impossible to survive on a meagre amount of Rs 3000 per month.

However, in a recent proposal given by the committee, they have proposed to send the vacant posts to recruiting agencies.

They demanded immediate cancellation of order (GAD-/1/2021-02(13125) and minimization of probation period from 7 years to 5 years on RET pattern.
