Jammu's Residency Road to be renamed; JMC passes resolution

Jammu: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), on Saturday passed a resolution to rename Jammu’s Residency Road.

It was informed that the said road will now be known as Devvani Sanskrit Scholar Late ‘Dr. Uttam Chand Shastri Pathak’ Marg.

JMC Councilor Narottam Sharma got a resolution passed in the General House Meeting of the Corporation with the cooperation of all councilors that Jammu Residency Road should be renamed as Pandit Uttam Chand Shastri Pathak Marg.

Meanwhile, a felicitation ceremony was organized on behalf of Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sanathan Trust. Former minister Sham Lal Sharma was present as the chief guest on the occasion. JMC Councilor Ward No. 3 Narottam Sharma was also honored on the occasion.

Trust President Mahant Rohit Shastri said that a few days ago they had requested Jammu Mayor, Rajinder Sharma and Councilor Narottam Sharma to rename Satwari Airport Road or Jammu Residency Road as Dr. Uttam Chand Shastri Pathak.

On this occasion, former minister Sham Lal Sharma said that it is a great thing that for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir a road has been named after a Sanskrit scholar.

With such efforts, the morale of Sanskrit servants will increase and with such efforts it is possible to re-establish the extinct Sanskrit religion-philosophy in J&K.

Councilor Narottam Sharma said that late Dr. Uttam Chand Shastri Pathak and his family have made invaluable contribution in the promotion and development of Sanskrit language in India.

Late Dr. Uttam Chand Shastri Pathak’s dedication in promoting Sanskrit language in the nation is well known. Students educated by him are today holding high positions in the J&K administration and the central government.
