SRINAGAR: In order to prevent the Covid-19 cases from spreading, the major shrines and Masjids including historic Jamia Masjid, Hazratbal and others continued to remain closed for the mandatory Friday congregational prayers.

Witnesses told that the Masjids and shrines, especially those falling under the jurisdiction of the Wakf board have remained closed for the mandatory Friday congregational prayers for the sixth straight week.

The authorities have barred the people from offering prayers at the major shrines and masjids in wake of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The government has directed officials to ensure that no gathering comprising more than 25 persons are allowed anywhere across Jammu and Kashmir. Notably, the Friday prayers were allowed at the historic Jamia Masjid on August 06 after a gap of nearly five months. However, the Masjid has closed again in the next week—(KNO)
