India reports less than 40,000 daily Covid-19 cases after 102 days; 907 deaths in the last 24 hours

In a rather heartening news following a devastating second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, India on Monday recorded less than 40,000 daily Covid-19 cases for the first time in 102 days, the lowest daily case count since March 18.

The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday reported 37,566 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s total caseload to 3,03,16,897. However, India’s active caseload has declined to 5,52,659.

India is the second country after the United States to record more than three crore Covid-19 cases, adding one crore cases in the past 50 days.

As many as 907 people died in the past one day, taking the total death toll to 3,97,637.

“Active cases constitute 1.82% of total cases. With 56,994 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, total recoveries across the country has now reached 2,93,66,601. Daily recoveries continue to outnumber the daily new cases for the 47th consecutive day. The ‘recovery rate’ has increased to 96.87%,” the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in an official statement on Tuesday.

India’s ‘weekly positivity rate’ too has remained below 5%, and is currently at 2.74%. The ‘daily positivity rate is now at 2.12%, less than 5% for 22 consecutive days.

As many as 32,90,29,510 vaccine doses have been administered so far in the country, including 52,76,457 in the last 24 hours, under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive.

A total of 40,81,39,287 swab samples have been tested across India till June 28, of which, 17,68,008 samples were tested on Monday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said in a statement.
