India reports 28,204 new COVID-19 cases, lowest in 147 days

India on Tuesday reported 28,204 new cases of COVID-19, the lowest in 147 days. The active caseload in the country currently stands at 3,88,508 and the recovery rate stands at 97.45 per cent, the Union Health Ministry said.

According to the latest updates, more than 52.56 crore (52,56,35,710) vaccine doses have been provided to states/ union territories (UTs). Of this, the total consumption including wastages is 51,09,58,562 doses, as per the data available at 8 am today – the Health Ministry said.

According to the data shared by the ministry, the recovery rate in the country has increased to 97.45 per cent, the highest ever achieved since the pandemic began in 2019. Tuesday’s number is also lesser by 13,680 cases as compared to the tally on Monday.

Further, the daily positivity rate in the country has declined to 1.87 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.36 per vent.

Over 3.11 crore recovered so far

Over 3.11 crore people have recovered from the deadly disease so far. According to a tally by news agency PTI, India’s COVID-19 cases crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020; 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16 and one crore on December 19. In June, the country crossed a grim milestone of 3-crore cases.
