India has made a landmark achievement of administering over 6 crore COVID-19 Vaccine doses in record time. Continuing with its largest vaccination drive in the world, the nation administered over 21 lakh 54 thousand doses yesterday alone. India is one of the countries in the world to administer over 6 crore 2 lakh 69 thousand COVID vaccine doses in a short span of only 71 days.
The nation commenced the world’s largest vaccination drive in on 16th January this year with vaccination of healthcare workers. Vaccination of front line workers began from 2nd February whereas the most recent phase began from 1st of this month encompassing vaccination of everyone aged above 60 years and above 45 years with specified co-morbidities. Health Ministry has informed that in just 27 days of the current phase nearly 2 crore 75 lakh senior citizens above 60 years and around 65 lakh people above 45 years with co-morbidities have been administered the first shot of the COVID-19 Vaccine.
The Health Ministry has informed in the last 24 hours, 62 thousand 714 new cases were reported. Nearly 80 per cent of the new cases are reported from the six states of Maharashtra, Punjab, Chattisgarh, Karnataka, Gujarat & Madhya Pradesh. The number of active cases in the country today stands at just above the figure of 4 lakh 86 thousand, comprising around 4.06 per cent of the total reported cases. The Health Ministry has informed that 312 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours due to COVID-19 taking the cumulative toll to 1 lakh 61 thousand 552.
In the last 24 hours, over 28 thousand people were discharged after recovery. Till now, over 1 crore 13 lakh people have recovered from the infection in the country and COVID-19 recovery rate in the country presently stands at 94.59 per cent.
Indian Council of Medical Research, ICMR has informed that over 11 lakh 81 thousand samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country yesterday. With this the cumulative testing figure has crossed the mark of 24 crore 9 lakh. As of today, two thousand 430 laboratories are engaged in the work of testing COVID samples across the country which includes one thousand 227 government and one thousand 203 private labs.
