In a landmark achievement, over 93 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered across India till Friday evening, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said. The country reached another milestone, as the cumulative number of coronavirus vaccine doses administered in the country has surpassed the 62-crore landmark.

The Union health minsiter congratulated the countrymen as India today administered a historic number of vaccine doses.

“Congratulations to the citizens as India today administers historic 90 lakh #COVID19 vaccines until now – and still counting!” Union health minister tweeted.

Meanwhile, in yet another feat, over half of India’s eligible population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“India achieves unprecedented milestone! 50 per cent of the eligible population inoculated with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Keep it up India. Let us fight Corona,” tweeted Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

While 100 per cent of the front-line workers have been inoculated against the deadly contagious virus, there has been a 99 per cent coverage among healthcare workers.

Over the past weeks, the pace of the COVID-19 vaccination drive has gained significant momentum.

As per the Union health minister, India took 85 days to administer 10 crore doses. The country then took 45 days to cross the 20-crore mark and 29 more days to reach 30 crore. The 40 crore mark was reached in another 24 days and the country crossed the 50 crore milestone in another 20 days. And thereafter, it took only 19 more days to go past the 60-crore mark.

Currently, Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V vaccine doses are being administered in India.

Zydus Cadila has received Emergency Use Authorisation from the Drug Controller General of India for ZyCoV-D vaccine. Notably, it is the world’s first plasmid DNA vaccine for coronavirus.
