New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday awarded two Kirti Chakras and an equal number of Shaurya Chakras posthumously to soldiers who laid down their lives in Army operations in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast.

In a rare occurrence, he also awarded a Shaurya Chakra to 16-year-old Irfan Ramzan Sheikh who thwarted a militant attack on his home in 2017.

  1. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Sepoy Ajay Kumar (Posthumous), Mechanised Infantry, 42nd Battalion, Rashtriya Rifles. He displayed courage, exceptional valour to neutralise a terrorist and safeguard his team and made the supreme sacrifice for the nation

 

2. President Kovind presents Kirti Chakra to Rifleman Jaiprakash Oraon (Posthumous), 4th Battalion, Assam Rifles. During an operation in Manipur, despite being grievously injured, he displayed extraordinary courage and eliminated two terrorists and injured two more

 

3. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Kuldeep Singh Chahar, Deputy Commandant, 182 Battalion, CRPF. He showed gallantry and indomitable courage and evacuated many civilians to safety during a terrorist attack in Pulwama, J&K

 

4. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Major Pawan Kumar, Jat Regiment, 34th Battalion, Rashtriya Rifles. He displayed perseverance, dedication to duty, unmatched bravery and extraordinary courage in elimination of a terrorist in J&K

 

5. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Irfan Ramzan Sheikh. He exhibited courage and maturity and fought off militants, safeguarding the life of his father and other family members in Jammu & Kashmir

 

6. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Rifleman Rathva Lilesh Bhai , 4th Battalion, Assam Rifles. He displayed gallantry, with utter disregard to his own safety, as well as tactical acumen to eliminate two terrorists and injure two more in Manipur

 

7. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Naib Subedar Anil Kumar Dahiya, First Battalion, Parachute Regiment (Special Forces). He displayed valour, inspiring leadership, outstanding tactical acumen during the operation and eliminated three terrorists along the LoC in J&K

 

8. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Zile Singh, Assistant Commandant, 180 Battalion, CRPF. He displayed bravery, raw courage and utmost dedication in fighting terrorists in J&K and rescued 10 personnel and successfully prevented a major terrorist attack

 

9. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Havildar Jaweed Ahmad Bhat, 9th Battalion, Parachute Regiment (Special Forces). He displayed gallantry, determination, and exceptional battle craft while eliminating two enemy soldiers and grievously wounding one, along the LoC in J&K

 

10. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Havildar Kul Bahadur Thapa, 9th Battalion, Parachute Regiment (Special Forces). He displayed gallantry, tactical acumen and outstanding leadership in combat, while killing two enemy soldiers and and prevented Indian casualties

 

11. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Lieutenant Colonel Arjun Sharma, 6th Battalion, Jat Regiment. He displayed exemplary leadership, and outstanding valour in eliminating four terrorists and prevented a major terrorist strike in J&K

 

12. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Capt Abhay Sharma, First Battalion, Parachute Regiment (Special Forces). He exhibited exceptional tactical acumen under heavy fire and resolute leadership and neutralised terrorists without any casualty to his own troops along LoC, J&K

 

13. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Major Imliakum Keitzar, 4th Battalion, Gorkha Rifles. He displayed courage, selfless devotion, leadership and gallantry and eliminated three terrorists in J&K

 

14. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Major Rohit Lingwal, 9th Battalion, Parachute Regiment (Special Forces). He displayed gallantry, outstanding leadership, meticulous planning and perseverance in eliminating a terrorist and thwarted a major attack on his own troops

 

15. President Kovind presents Shaurya Chakra to Lt Col Vikrant Prasher, 10th Battalion, Parachute Regiment (Special Forces). He displayed bravery, superior tactical expertise, ingenuity and unorthodox approach leading to surgical elimination of a terrorist in J&K

 

16. President Kovind presents Kirti Chakra to Pradip Kumar Panda (Posthumous), Constable, 130 Battalion, CRPF. He displayed exceptional bravery, raw courage, utmost dedication and commitment to duty in fighting terrorists in J&K and made the supreme sacrifice for the nation
