The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ for Raigad and Ratnagiri districts on Friday while Mumbai and Thane will be on red alert tomorrow. These areas are likely to witness heavy to very rainfall as the monsoon advances.
“With the formation of a low-pressure system in North Bay of Bengal, and its likely inward movement along with it getting intensified, the Maharashtra coast is likely to witness heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rain in the next four to five days,” said KS Hosalikar, scientist, IMD.
“The Raigad and Ratnagiri districts have been given a red alert today while Mumbai and Thane are on red alert for Sunday and the trend of heavy rain will stay. Mumbaikars must take care and not go out unless for very urgent work,” Hosalikar added.
An orange alert is in place for Saturday (June 12) in Mumbai and for the first two days of next week (June 14
