The regional center of IGNOU organized its 32nd convocation at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir here on Wednesday.During the function at least 11000 degrees were awarded to learners in different disciplines.
The main highlight of the convocation was gold medal awarded to Nazma Yaqoob, a mother of a child, hailing from a of Kokernag in Anantnag, for securing first position, throughout the country, in order of merit in Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development, said a statement.
Vice chancellor KU Prof Talat Ahmad was the guest of honour and the convocation was presided over by Dr Tariq Ashai, coordinator IGNOU (Amar Singh College, Srinagar). In his address Prof Talat said that IGNOU was doing great service in the field of distance education by providing higher education to peoples.
Dr Nurul Hasan, regional director IGNOU, presented a detailed and comprehensive report about Srinagar Centre highlighting its activities in Kashmir including Leh and Kargil. In his presidential address Dr Ashai highlighted main activities of IGNOU and praised the work done by the regional centre especially for the Kashmir Valley.
