ICCR showcasing classical music concert of local flavour “Swaragini” under “Kala Vishwa”

Jammu: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Regional Office, Jammu & Kashmir hosted a unique classical music concert of local flavour “Swaragini” by Dr Mukteshi Sharma under a special campaign “Kala Vishwa” under “Horizon Series” on February 21, 2022 at 4:00 PM at KL Sehgal Auditorium, Abhinav Theatre, Jammu for celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM).

A jam-packed music lovers witnessed the spectacular show with a great zeal and fervour. The cultural programme began with a lighting of lamp performed by the Chief Guest Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and Special Guest of Honour Dr Arvind Singh Aman, Addl. Secy, JKAACL and other dignitaries present there. Thereafter, artists and Chief Guest were cordially felicitated with presentation of bouquet by Regional Director, ICCR Jammu.


Welcoming the guests, Sh. N.K. Shil, Regional Director, ICCR and Regional Passport Officer, Jammu said that how ICCR a cultural wing of MEA aims to enhance India’s soft diplomatic power worldwide and boost India’s skills of cultural diplomacy as well as to bring the people of the country and world together through cultural and educational initiatives/exchanges.

While dwelling on the glorious past of progressive India, supreme sacrifices made by martyrs, etc on the occasion of initiative of MEA AKAM Week, he also urged the youth of the country to take inspiration from the martyrs who laid down their lives for freedom struggle and achievers, move forward and work together to be a stakeholder in the journey of making India self-reliant.

Guided by this objective, ICCR strives to establish and strengthen inter-cultural bond, enhance mutual understanding and promote harmonious relationships among the diverse section of the society within India and abroad. At the same time, ICCR wants to promote local art and culture and provide opportunity to budding artists to showcase their talent in the field of art, music, dance, drama.

Today’s performance began with Raag Madhuvanti. It reached a crescendo when she beautifully sang Vilambhit Khaya. Her powerful melody of singing captivated everyone in the audience. Those who accompanied the artist were also the genius in their respective instruments. They included Sh Ashutosh Mangotra (Harmonium) and Sh Neeraj Verma (Tabla). Another striking feature of the programme was the versatile anchoring done by presenter Ms Rajni.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar chief guest complimented the efforts of ICCR in promoting communal harmony and preserving the ethnically rich composite culture of J&K UT and harnessing the local talent. Prominent personalities who attended the function were Dr. Vijay Atreyo, Advocate Sandeep Gupta and renowned artist Dharmesh Magotra, etc and ICCR Scholars.  The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Arvind Aman.
