IAF celebrates Infantry Day across all the formations in J&K

SRINAGAR: Indian Armed forces on Wednesday celebrated “their first arrival in Kashmir on October 27, 1947” as the Infantry Day across all the formations in J&K.

Officials told that the armed forces at the corps, division, battalion and unit-level held various functions to mark the Indian army’s first foot in Kashmir that followed by accession with India on October 27, 1947. The celebrations were mainly held with a traditional wreath-laying ceremony.

Sources said that at Northern Command’s the Dhruva War Memorial, Lieutenant General S Harimohan Iyer, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Northern Command, laid a wreath on behalf of Lieutenant General Yogesh Kumar Joshi, Army Commander, Northern Command and complimented all ranks and veterans of Infantry for their devotion to duty and indomitable spirit while working under trying and challenging conditions.

He saluted their contributions and sacrifices to protect the territorial integrity of the nation and fight terrorism with unstinting resolve, they said.

The 75th Infantry Day is celebrated on October 27 to commemorate the operations launched by the Indian Army in 1947 to thwart the Pakistani aggression on the State (erstwhile) of Jammu and Kashmir.

On this solemn day, the supreme sacrifices made by the Indian Army in defending the honour and integrity of the nation were remembered by all, said the spokesman.

Yol based Rising Star Corps celebrated Infantry Day with traditional solemnity. Lieutenant General PN Ananthanarayanan, SM, GOC ‘Rising Star Corps’, laid a wreath at the ‘War Memorial’ in Yol Cantt.

Serving Infantry officers and all ranks of ‘Rising Star Corps attended the ceremony. Similar events were also organized at Mamun, Pathankot and Jammu. Jammu based Tiger Division also celebrated Infantry Day with traditional solemnity.

Major General Neeraj Gosain, General Officer Commanding ‘Tiger Division’, laid a wreath at the ‘War Memorial’ in Satwari Cantt. Serving officers and all ranks of ‘Tiger Divisions’ attended the Ceremony. Similar events were also organized at respective Brigade Headquarters—(KNO)
