Human rights abusers not eligible for key appointments in J&K child rights panel: Govt

SRINAGAR: Those involved in violation of human rights or child rights are not eligible for appointment as chairperson or member of Jammu & Kashmir Child Rights Commission, says Jammu & Kashmir Government.

A notice issued by the government states that those with past record of violation of human rights or child rights are ineligible for key statutory positions in the rights body.

According to the notice, those sentenced and convicted for an offence which in the opinion of government involves moral turpitude are also not eligible for these positions.

The notice also states that those removed or dismissed by the central government or state government are also not eligible for these positions.

The notice has been issued by the J&K government for filling the post of chairperson and six members in the child rights panel. Among six members, two shall be women.
