How much money was spent on PM Modi's foreign visits in last 5 years?

New Delhi: Since November 2017, PM Narendra Modi has made 36 official foreign visits, as per data submitted to the Parliament.

More than ₹239.04 crore was spent on 29 of these trips, with exact data of rest of the trips not available. PM Modi’s visit to US with his delegation in 2019 cost ₹23.27 crore, the costliest visit in the time period.

The government told Rajya Sabha that PM Modi’s foreign visits helped India to strengthen its relations with its global partners and shaped the country’s global agenda on international issues.

Replying to Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan, informed that government spent Rs 32,09,760 for PM Modi’s recent visit to Indonesia during the G20 Summit.

The expenditure for PM Modi Japan visit between September 26-28 was Rs 23,86,536, the minister stated in the Rajya Sabha.

Giving details of prime minister’s visit to Europe earlier this year, Muraleedharan informed the Upper House that Rs 2,15,61,304 was the total cost, while Rs 23,27,09,000 was spent for PM Modi’s US visit between September 21-28, 2019.

Replying to Rajya Sabha, the Union Minister of State Prime Minster’s visits to foreign countries are an important means by which India serves its national interest and implements foreign policy objectives.

“Understandings reached during these visits have enabled India to strengthen relations with partner countries and put forward India’s viewpoint and shape the global agenda on global issues such as reformed multilateralism, climate change, transnational crime, terrorism, cyber-security, etc,” the Union Minister said.

The minister said the expenditures on account of the PM Modi’s visits to Bangladesh in March 2021, the 2021 US visit and his visits to Italy and the UK in 2021 were met from the budget head of the Ministry of Home Affairs. (Agencies)
