Govt committed to improve statistics system in all aspect: Sadananda Gowda


Statistics and Programme Implementation Minister DV Sadananda Gowda has said the government is committed to improve statistics system in all aspect. He said the best practices and success stories of other countries that have pioneered in statistics management can be adopted in this regard.

The Minister was speaking at a two-day Round Table Conference on Data in New Delhi today. Renowned statisticians and experts from Australia, Canada and other International agencies participated in the event to share their experiences and best practices on issues of Statistical Management.

Talking about the importance of statistics in policy making, Mr Gowda said, it has become a basic tool for good governance, therefore, it is pertinent that public interest should be nurtured and protected.

He added, in order to promote trust in official statistics among the users, it is essential that statistics must be produced by standard and transparent processes.

He also said, data is precious and comes at a cost and collecting data alone is not enough. He said, storing, analyzing and disseminating data for various decision-making processes in the government is quite important.
