Government makes FASTag mandatory on all National Highways

Government has made FASTag mandatory on the National Highways. All lanes in the fee plazas on National Highways were declared as FASTag lane midnight last night. As per NH Fee Rules 2008, any vehicle not fitted with FASTag or vehicle without valid, functional FASTag, entering into the FASTag lane of the fee plaza will have to pay a fee equivalent to two times of the fee applicable to that category.

Speaking to AIR News, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Giridhar Aramane said, FASTags will prove to be beneficial both to the passengers as well as to the toll management authorities.

FASTag is a RFID tag which is linked with a payment instrument and can be easily affixed on the windscreen of any vehicle. The RFID reader fixed at the toll plaza reads the FASTag and automatically deducts the toll fare from the linked account or prepaid wallet whenever the vehicle crosses the plaza.
