Union law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the government is committed to freedom of media and rights of individuals but it is equally concerned about safety, security, and law and order in the country.
After inaugurating centenary celebrations of Patna High Court Mr Prasad said the commitment of Government to freedom of media is complete and total but it is equally concerned about the security and sovereignty of India.
The Union Minister said social media has empowered common people. The government respects criticism, one can even criticise the Prime Minister, but if social media is used to propagate hate, then action will be taken.
The Union Law Minister said concerns had been raised over the rampant abuse of social media platforms and the spread of fake news. He said social media is not supposed to post disturbing comments against the judiciary and knowledge of judge.
