G.D. Sharma Commission a sham, Gujjars to take ST struggle to national level

Jammu: Describing the G.D. Sharma Commission on Economically and Socially Backward Classes a sham exercise excuted in isolated rooms without obtaining inputs of stakeholders, a body of Gujjars and Bakerwals today said that they will take the struggle for protection of Scheduled Tribe to the national level.

Addressing a press conference in Jammu under the aegis of Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar Bakerwal Co-ordination Committee, Advocate Anwar Chowdhary said that the community has got support from the Gujjars of Rajasthan and Haryana for protecton of their rights. He said that the Gujjars from different states of India will join the Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir for protest outside the Parliament of India during the winter session to raise consciousness on the rights and problems of Gujjars.

Alleging a conspiracy against Gujjars, Advocate Chowdhary said, “the G.D. Sharma Commission did its work in isolated room during the Covid lockdowns as the Commission members made no effort to reach the stakeholders for relevant inputs”. The Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar Bakerwal Co-ordination Committee has outrightly rejected the recommendations of the G.D. Sharma Commission and described its work as sham.

Advocate Chowdhary mentioned about the march being taken out by Gujjar and Bakerwal youth from Baramulla and Kupwara which is headed to Lakhanpur in south of Jammu to raise awareness about issues of Gujjars. He said that the community is united and prepareted to fight against any attempt of diluting the Scheduled Tribe reservation benefits available to Gujjars.
