Five drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam, Budgam: Police

Srinagar, Feb 11: Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have arrested five drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession in South Kashmir’s Kulgam and Central Kashmir’s Budgam districts.

A Police spokesman in a statement issued to the news agency said that officers at a checkpoint established near Alstop intercepted a vehicle (Truck) bearing registration number JK14A-9455 with two persons on board.

They have been identified as Mohinder Singh and Harpal Singh both residents of RS Pora Jammu. During checking, officers were able to recover 1.5Kg of Poppy straw from their possession.

Similarly, officers intercepted a suspicious person at the same checkpoint who has been identified as Reyaz Ahmad Dar resident of Harnag. During the search, officers were able to recover 100grams of Charas from his possession, police said, adding that all the three accused persons have been arrested and shifted to PS Qazigund where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, police said that cases vide FIR numbers 25/2021 and 26/2021 under the relevant section of law have been registered at PS Qazigund and further investigation have been taken up.

“In Budgam, officers at a checkpoint established near Hyderpora Budgam intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JKO1X-6788 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Taufeeq Ahmed Bhat @Raja resident of Tangpora Batamallo and Javaid Ahmed Dar resident of Ompora Budgam,” the statement said.

During checking, officers were able to recover psychotropic substance (15 bottles of Codine Phosphate and 225 Tablets of Alprazolam) from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Budgam where they remain in custody, a spokesman said, adding that the vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood.
