The first meeting of the Cauvery Water Management Authority will be held in New Delhi today to resolve dispute among southern states. The meeting of the nine-member Authority will be chaired by the Central Water Commission Chairman S Masood Hussain, who is also heading the Cauvery Authority.
The meeting will discuss the issues including water storage in Cauvery basin reservoirs, the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu from Karnataka as per the schedule and duly complying with all aspects of the judgement of the Supreme Court in this regard. AIR correspondent has reports that the two presentatives from Karnataka will be attending the meeting today and present state views on the formation of the Authority and regulation Committee.
The all party meeting held last Saturday in Bengaluru had taken a decision to appeal before Supreme Court against the notification of Authority by the Central Government. It was also decided to raise the issue in Parliament by the state Parliamentarians cutting across party lines. The state contention is that the formation of the two permanent bodies will encroach upon the right of the state, as irrigation is a state subject.
