New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday, 27 January, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
Sitharaman was reportedly hospitalised at noon. The development comes just two days after the adjournment of the Winter Session of the Parliament on 23 December.
Sitharaman is scheduled to present the Union Budget on February 1, 2023. The minister, on Friday, indicated that her forthcoming Budget will continue to push growth on the back of public spending as she said it will “follow the spirit” of earlier Budgets.
She chaired the pre-Budget consultation meetings for Budget 2023-24 held in virtual mode from November 21-28.
Last week, the minister said that the government is keeping a close watch on inflation to ensure there is no surge in prices.
The finance minister also exuded confidence that India will succeed in handling inflation better as it has already put in place a ‘very good framework’ in place to address supply side pressures on food prices.
The retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has remained above the Reserve Bank’s comfort level of 6 per cent since January.
