Srinagar, Nov 24: Reacting to news reports that former chief minister Farooq Abdullah has been named in the Roshni land scam, National Conference (NC) on Tuesday said that its president is not a beneficiary of the act and the rumour was being spread with malicious intent.
“The news attributing to sources that Dr Farooq Abdullah is a beneficiary of the Roshni Act is completely false and is being spread with a malicious intent,” an NC spokesperson said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
He said that Dr Abdullah has not availed the Roshni scheme for either his residences in Srinagar or in Jammu. “Anyone saying otherwise is lying,” he said.
He said the fact that they (news reports) are using sources to plant this story shows that it has no legs to stand on.
News reports have alleged that Dr Abdullah had illegally acquired seven kanal of government land illegally in 90s.
