JAMMU: Working State President Youth Congress J&K Fairoz Khan addressed a press conference in which he said, we believe that education is a very important thing that everyone should be able to have access to. Unfortunately, there are some that are unable to obtain an education due to lack of opportunities and particularly in Ramban due to Shortage of staff & lack of transport facility. The students of our district are facing an enormous problem in two matters, first is shortage of staff and second one is lack of transport facility. Lack of transportation can cause students to either be tardy or have numerous absences . The college and school goers especially the females are facing hardships of transport and they have to travel in jam packed buses and matadors and sometimes even waiting for hours and reaching home late at night. This would result in their grades falling.

He added The students are facing problems while going to and coming back from schools and colleges. Owing to shortage of buses and minibuses they are not able to reach their schools and colleges on time. It is very difficult to reach the School & college during the morning hours as all means of transport remain occupied due to augmented footfall of employees, people & students. They have to remain standing or climb atop private buses to attend the first lecture and the same is the case in the evening.

Travelling and attending schools and colleges become most difficult for girls students and one of the reasons for their dropout from schools in Ramban district.

The students are continuously protesting in Ramban district, whether it is Ramban, Rajgarh, Batote or Ukhral. The students are demanding proper staff, lack of transport and opposed to the opening of a wine shop near schools & colleges.

Fairoz Khan said You may be wondering, “how can we fix the transportation equity problem for students to get to school?”One way of creating more opportunity for students to have transportation would be to have programs provided by the educational institutions. These programs may include organizing carpool systems with families that have access to cars, allowing school buses to go a further distance to pick up students, and lastly giving assistance for students to pay for bus fare. With these simple solutions, we can improve student’s attendance and ensure that everyone will have a chance to attend school every day.

He demanded that school, college and the government authorities to facilitate the students with special buses. He also demanded that SRTC should start a special bus in the morning & evening connecting various School & colleges from the respective bus stands. He added that a parent-teacher association should be made to facilitate this.

Fairoz Khan said he got this data from social media that Government-run schools in Ramban district are facing an acute shortage of teaching staff as 586 posts of principals, lecturers, headmasters and teachers are vacant whereas the sanctioned strength is 2,073. This is now a day today affair why LG Govt is not announcing new posts, so that vacant posts can be filled and some educated youth will get employed.

We are left with no option but to protest the failure of Govt to provide staff in school and colleges and of the district administration to make proper arrangements of transportation of students to their respective colleges and schools Congress and youth congress, NSUI will be up in arms to launch agitation in case the Government fails to run extra buses and matadors during peak hours and shortage of staff is not met. In this case the first protest will be held in Ukhral on 14th May.
