Exams from class 10 to 12th in March announces SED

Says identified 30-35 percent difficult, hard areas, exams slated in April

SRINAGAR: The School Education Department (SED) ordered a uniform academic calendar in J&K and Ladakh.

As per the uniform academic calendar, the examination in the identified difficult areas shall be delayed and held from the second week of April while as in other areas the examination will be held in the first week of March.

The government also said that it will allow the students of classes 10th and 11th to continue their education even if they were declared unsuccessful.

The School Education Department said that it had constituted a committee for the implementation of the Uniform Academic Calendar for both the Divisions of Jammu and Kashmir in sync with the Higher Education Department and the rest of the country.

Principal Secretary, School Education Department, Alok Kumar said, “The committee deliberated on the issue and was of the opinion that Option-II which is reproduced as under is most suitable for implementation in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.”

“The theory examination in UT of Jammu and Kashmir shall be conducted from the first week of March as per the present Academic calendar of Jammu Summer Zone except in difficult areas of Jammu region and some areas of Kashmir region,” it reads.

It also states that the examination in these difficult areas shall be delayed and held from the second week of April as per the calendar proposed when these areas are fully accessible and the delivery of the examination stationary and confidential material is ensured.

“Even though if examination in these difficult areas shall be conducted separately, the result of this examination can be declared simultaneously, as although the difficult areas constitutes of approx 30-35 percent of the area of the UT, the total number of students from these areas is not more than approx 10-12 percent, since the areas are sparsely populated and the evaluation of answer scripts shall take less time,” read the order.

“In supersession of all previous orders issued from time to time on the subject, the sanction is accorded to the operationalization of Uniform Academic Calendar in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir from the current academic session.

Stating the guidelines to implement it, the department said, “Students who appear in Class 10th and 11th examinations shall be provisionally admitted in Class 11th and 12th respectively after the conclusion of board examination.”

“Students, who are declared unsuccessful in the results, shall be permitted to continue their studies in Class 11th and 12 till the result of bi-annual and annual private examinations are declared. In respect of the candidates who fail to pass in bi-annual examination, provisional admission shall be cancelled,” it reads.
