Ex-Minister Sardar Rafiq Hussain dies, thousands attend funeral

Poonch, Jan 20: Senior PDP leader and former minister Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan passed away here following brief illness, family sources said on Wednesday. He was 85. Thousands of people attended his funeral and was laid to at ancestral graveyard at Gursai.

Khan served as MLA for three terms and discharged duties as minister twice in his career. He was also leading lawyer of the area and had done his LLB from Aligarh Muslim University.

The People’s Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti in a statement issued condoled the “sad and tragic” demise of the senior PDP leader 

“Rafiq Sahab was a renowned political personality across Pir Panchal region who devoted his entire life towards the upliftment of the people of the region” Mehbooba said.

Recalling his close association with Mufti Sahab the PDP President said ” Rafiq Khan Sahab was a close associate of Mufti Sahab and was instrumental in strengthening the party across the region,” she said.
