Elgar Parishad case: Bombay HC asks Maharashtra govt to file reply on activist’s plea.

The Bombay High Court has sought a reply from the Maharashtra government on a plea filed by activist Vernon Gonsalves challenging his arrest in the Elgar Parishad-Bhima Koregaon case.

The court yesterday directed the state to file its reply by the 9th of next month. In his plea, Gonsalves said, his custody was illegal since the prosecution had failed to follow due procedure while seeking the extension of time for filing the charge sheet against him and others in the case.

Gonsalves, currently in judicial custody, was arrested by the Pune police in October last year following raids at the houses and offices of several activists in connection with the 31st December 2017 event to commemorate the battle of Bhima-Koregaon.
