Election Commission will issue notification for the elections to the two vacant seats in Bihar, one vacant seat in Andhra Pradesh and 12 seats in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council on 11th of this month. The two vacancies in the State of Bihar have been created due to the resignation of Sushil Kumar Modi, who has now been elected as a Rajya Sabha member and election of Vinod Narain Jha to the State Assembly last year.
The single vacancy in Andhra Pradesh has been created due to the resignation of Pothula Sunitha, while in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, the term of 12 members is coming to an end on 30th of this month.
The Commission has decided to hold bye-elections to the three Legislative Councils by the members of their Legislative Assemblies for which the votes will be polled on 28th January. Election Commission has also clearly laid down directions to strictly follow COVID appropriate behaviour during the polling session. It has directed the Chief Secretaries of these States to depute a senior officer to ensure that the instructions regarding COVID-19 containment measures are properly complied with while making arrangements for conducting the election.
