Earthquake of 6.1 magnitude shakes J&K, epicenter in Punjab

Srinagar, Feb 12: An earthquake of magnitudee 6.1 on the Richter scale occurred on Friday night in Jammu and Kashmir, triggering panic among the people who rushed outside their homes and called their loved ones to enquire about their wellbeing.

The high-intensity earthquake occurred 22:34:40IST. The earthquake had a depth of ten kilometres and the epicentre was Amritsar Punjab at latitude 31.57 degrees north and longitude 75.09 degrees east, a meteorological department official told local news agency.

There was no immediate report of any damage in the earthquake which caused panic among the people who rushed out of their houses.
