Dr Sehrish directs officers to ensure committees framed for harassment cases are working properly

BARAMULLA: Deputy commissioner Baramulla, Syed Sehrish Asgar on Saturday directed officers to ensure that the committees framed for harassment cases were working properly and bring the same into her notice.

The directions came in the backdrop of sexual harassment allegations against a professor by a girl student at Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Kashmir (SKUAST), Wadura campus in Sopore.

Sehrish Asgar made the comments at a function in Sopore on Saturday and stated every woman has right to speak against injustice, particularly against harassment to them at institutional levels.

She also said whoever is facing such kinds of harassment may approach the institution and in case they are reluctant they may approach her directly. She also directed officers and heads of institutions across the district to ensure committees framed for reporting of sexual harassment cases or women related are working properly.

“If any of the committees is not functioning that should be immediately brought to my notice for early redressal,” she said.

On Friday, police arrested a professor of SKUAST-K Wadura campus after a girl student alleged she was sexually harassed by him—(KNO)
