Demand for separate Lok Sabha seat for Rajouri, more Assembly segments

Jammu: At least two delegations from Rajouri district have called for creation of a separate Lok Sabha Constituency for the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
“Geography and administrative boundaries are the key features of the current delimitation process. In this context the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch deserve a separate Lok Sabha Constituency”, said Javed Choudhary, Chairman Block Development Council Koteranka (Budhal-Old).

Javed Choudhary and another young political activist Mian Habib ul Bashar led two delegations of political representatives from five blocks spread over three constituencies to meet the Delimitation Commission.
Javed said, “before meeting the Commission, we held a very comprehensive process of consultations with stakeholders to take local views on board”, said Javed who was accompanied by Mian Habib and their other colleagues from Koteranka, Budhal, Peeri, Darhal, Khawas and Dhangri areas of Rajouri district.
He said that a well researched and comprehensive document already stands submitted to the Commission through Deputy Commissioner Rajouri.
Javed said that Rajouri district also deserves increase of two constituencies in view of its higher population and geographical features. “We are victims of historic discrimination and that must end “, said Javed.
The BDC Chairman said that the current Delimitation Commission is a historic opportunity to undo injustices of the past.
He pointed out that Kathua district with one lakh population lesser than Rajouri has five constituencies while Rajouri has only four. To undo the injustice, the Commission must carve out at least five Assembly constituencies in Rajouri district.
