After one of the prominent journalists of Jammu, Nishikant Khajuria highlighted the issue of issue of Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department’s discrimination against Jammu Region in a news story “Govt’s Bid to Portray J&K as only Kashmir, discourage tourists visiting Jammu“. Manu Khajuria Singh took to social media to express her anguish over the issue. She writes:
Continuing the thread on why integrating the social media of Jammu Tourism Directorate with Kashmir is disastrous for all the 10 Districts of #Jammu and the 2 in #Ladakh
1. The poster of “Kashmir Calling” for a “Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Convention” in Maharashtra on 25th March 2019, encapsulates everything that is wrong with the way the tourism in the State is promoted.’
Despite beautiful locations, rich history and prevailing peaceful conditions in #Bhaderwah in #Doda, #Duddu-Basantgarh, #Ramnagar in #Udhampur, #Reasi, #Jammu, #Kishtwar #Poonch #Rajouri and more such areas in #JammuRegion are not promoted for tourism, increasing the underdevelopment, unemployment and poverty in these areas. The state tourism department acts as if the state is Kashmir. It is not.
2. Only when the tender for the social media of Jammu Tourism was floated in 2016, Kashmir Tourism Page changed its name to Jammu & Kashmir Tourism to limit the threat of Jammu Region emerging as a more popular tourist destination for a variety of reasons.
We want an end to this #discrimination and demand empowered tourism departments for each Region.
