Bandipora, Nov 21: As many as 16 candidates have submitted their nomination papers to contest District Development Council (DDC) elections from Bonakoot panchayat block in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district in the third phase.
Official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that 16 candidates have submitted nomination papers to contest the upcoming DDC elections during the third phase from Bonakoot panchayat block.
They said that during the third phase of the forthcoming DDC elections, Bonakoot panchayat block will go to polls on December 04.
Official sources said that so far Bonakoot has received the highest number of nominations with 16 candidates in the fray in Bandipora district for the DDC election as earlier 11 nominations were received each from Ganastan and Sumbal blocks for the first phase.
An official said that notification for Bonakoot block was issued on November 11 while the last date for submitting the nomination papers and withdrawing the same was November 11 and 21 respectively.
Notably, 17 candidates had filed the nomination papers to contest the polls, however, one among them withdrew his nomination papers today and the rest of the 16 will be contesting the DDC polls from Bonakoot block.
Out of these 16 candidates, 13 will be contesting the polls “independently” while the rest 3 will be contesting the polls on their respective party tickets.
Notably, the PAGD has fielded a People’s Democratic Party candidate from this block as part of the seat-sharing pact of the alliance. Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party has also fielded its candidate from the same block.
Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded its Bandipora district president for Mahila Morcha wing from this block that is going to polls on December 04
