Jammu: Expressing concern over spurt in COVID cases across Jammu region, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Raghav Langer and Deputy Commissioner today emphasized for collective efforts to combat the spread of pandemic.    

Addressing a press conference, Divisional Commissioner Raghav Langer termed the recent spurt in covid cases across Jammu region as alarming trend. “Earlier, we have around 150 cases across the Jammu division but now the daily cases are swelling over 350,” he added.

“We have witnessed  fresh surge in cases in last 3 weeks, particularly in district Jammu and the people need to follow all SOPs to control further spread of Covid-19″.   The people’s cooperation in following SOPs including Wearing of face masks, maintaining social distancing and avoiding gathering is imperative to contain the spread, he added. He said that the preventive measures have been intensified, while committees have been constituted to check violations.

He also ruled out any restrictions in Jammu region for now.” Following surge in cases, other state are like Maharahstra, Punjab and Delhi are imposing restrictions like night curfew but there would no restrictions for now in Jammu region,” he said.

Urging people not to lower guard against the infection, he said that any violation will be dealt with strictness.

He urged people to cooperate with administration to combat the spread of infection. ” Even complete doses of vaccination its requisite to follow COVID appropriate behavior,” he said.

“Any kind of laxity will ruin our efforts,” he said while urging people to follow COVID guidelines.

Expressing concern over rising numbers, DC Jammu Anshul Garg informed that around 35 tested positive for the infection in science college, Jammu. “The SoPs will be followed,” he added.

He further said that testing has been intensified across Jammu. ” We are conducting testing for all incoming passengers,” he said.

He also appealed people to follow covid appropriate behavior.

Managing Director, NHM informed the media about the overall situation of Jammu division. He informed about that testing capacity has been increased in all the districts, while 100 percent sampling of all the incoming travellers at Airport, Railway stations and Lakhanpur is being ensured.

He further informed about the positivity rate, recovery rate, death rate. “Health department is putting in all possible efforts to deal with the emerging situation, however people’s cooperation is most important to contain the spread, he said.

Principal GMC Jammu also informed that all existing facilities have been augmented including Bedding capacity, availability of oxygen, staff and others to deal with the situation.

The DG Family welfare and immunization also informed about the progress of vaccination drive and urged people to come forward and take doses of vaccine.

SSP Jammu, Principal Government Medical College Jammu, Director Health Services, Joint Director Information were also present.
