COVID: J&K touches another grim milestone at 4926 fresh cases, 52 deaths

With highest single day spike, active cases breach 5000 mark in J&K-The Dispatch

Jammu: The unbridled Covid-19 pandemic continues to kill and immobilize Jammu and Kashmir. In the last 24 hours, it killed another 52 people in the last 24 hours taking the overall death toll in Jammu and Kashmir to 2458, officials’ sources said.

The existing health infrastructure is under massive load. There were grim images of patients moving to the hospitals with their personal or borrowed Oxygen concentrators and cylinders. Not many beds are available right now.

As many as 32 deaths took place in Jammu and 18 in Kashmir divisions, the information revealed by the government said.

Jammu town continues to top the list of the dead for yet another consecutive day. It lost 19 citizens in the last 24 hours. Srinagar, the other capital city lost 10 resident.

The district-wise details suggest that Kashmir three from Anantnag, two residents each from Baramulla ad Pulwama and one from Budgam.

Apart from 34 deaths reported from Jammu city, the region lost three citizens each from Rajouri and Kathua, two each from Udhampur, Poonch, and Samba, and one from Kishtwar

Of the 52 deaths that were reported from Jammu and Kashmir, 19 were reported from GMC Jammu, one in MCH wing (GMC), one in GMC Rajouri, two in GMC Kathua, one in AKG Kathua, one at SDH Mendhar, seven at home who were brought dead to Kishtwar hospital. In Srinagar, three deaths were reported from JVC SKIMS, three in SKIMS, two at SMHS, 2 in GMC Baramulla, two in DH Puwama, three at JLNM and three in GMC Anantnag, officials said.

In the last 24 hours, officials said 4926 new Covid-19 positive were reported across Jammu and Kashmir. Of them, Srinagar alone accounted for 1070. Jammu, the other capital of the erstwhile state reported 617 cases.

Of the new cases detected in the last 24 hours, Kashmir accounts for 3198 cases against 1518 of the Jammu division.

In Kashmir, the new cases include 353 from Baramulla, 605 from Budgam, 171 from Pulwama, 124 from Kupwara, 314 from Anantnag, 90 from Bandipora, 126 from Ganderbal, 218 from Kulgam, and 170 from Shopian.

From Jammu, officials said Udhampur reported 121, Rajouri 232, Doda 51, Kathua 200, Samba 131, Kishtwar 36, Poonch 124, Ramban 108, and Reasi 65.

Right now, Kashmir has 25552 active positive cases and Jammu has 14076, slightly less than half of Kashmir
