COVID-19 pandemic underlines need for greater collaboration between countries: Dr Harsh Vardhan

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has said that the COVID-19 pandemic has underlined the need for greater collaboration between countries on various aspects of health.

He said this while addressing the virtual conference on Wednesday on COVID-19 Pandemic: A Call for Health Security and Peace in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region.

Dr Harshvardhan said, it is desirable to exchange our experiences, learnings, innovations as well as the best practices to help strengthen health systems across the world.

He further informed India’s pre-emptive, proactive and graded response characterized by the whole of Government approach to manage the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that to effectively monitor pandemic, India established a digitally enabled COVID War Room at the Centre as well as the State-level to increase agility and enhance efforts in the fight against the virus.

Highlighting the need for vaccination, the Minister said that Vaccination is an important strategy for disease prevention and plays a critical role in mitigating the impact of a pandemic.

He said, India launched the world’s largest vaccination drive against COVID-19 on 16th January this year.
