Congress raises stakes in J&K, Azad named election incharge

JAMMU: Raising its electoral stakes in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress party has nominated its veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad as in-charge of election campaign and management in the restive state.
There was strong resentment in the state earlier when the Congress had nominated its general secretary Ambika Soni as in-charge of election affairs. Soni looks after the Jammu and Kashmir affairs as AICC general secretary.
Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad will head the campaign and election management committee in Jammu and Kashmir for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, a party statement said Friday.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi constituted a nine-member campaign and election management committee in the state for the polls.
Senior Congress leader Saifuddin Soz, Ghulam Ahmed Mir and Tariq Hamid Karra are part of the panel.
