SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a committee for reviewing restrictions imposed on setting up new plant protection Chemical Units (Pesticides, Weedicides and Herbicides etc in Jammu.
“In super-session of all previous orders on the subject, sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of a Committee, comprising the following, for reviewing restrictions imposed on setting up of new plant protection chemical units (Pesticides, Weedicides and Herbicides etc.) in the Jammu Division”, reads the order issued by General Administration Department.
The committee members include, Chairperson, J&K Pollution Control Committee, Director General, Industries and Commerce, Jammu, Director, Horticulture, Jammu, Director, Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, J&K, Dr. Sudhir Kumar Singh, Professor, SKUAST, Jammu and Dr. R.S Bandral, Professor, SKUAST, Jammu.
As per the order, the committees will assess the scope for setting up additional plant protection chemical units in terms of capacity which could be allowed in the Industrial Estates of the districts of the Jammu Division, where number of such units is low. Carry out a comprehensive exercise and recommend related criteria, guidelines, norms and standards for setting up of such units keeping all aspects including those pertaining to geographical, environmental and ecological situation of the area into consideration. The Committee shall submit its report within a period of one month.
