Jammu: In a major push to further upgrade infrastructure in the Union Territory of Ladakh, the Centre on Friday approved 17 road projects worth Rs 297 crore for the arid region under Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) during the current financial year.
In a letter addressed to Commissioner-Secretary, Public Works Department (PWD), Ladakh, the Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways has said that 17 projects amounting to Rs. 297.24 crore in the category of Major District Roads (MDR) and Other District Roads (ODR) have been approved by the competent authority with their modified costs as per the CRIF guidelines. Out of the total 17 projects, nine road projects, including eight in ODR category, have been approved for Leh district, while eight projects–all in ODR category–have been sanctioned for Kargil district.
The road projects approved for Kargil district comprise construction of road from Skardongla Phuklal to Shady having an estimated cost of Rs 46.50 crore, construction of steel bridge and approach road at Bakarchey Zanskar (Rs 10.27 crore), construction of steel bridge including approach road to Pishu (Rs 9.66 crore), construction of bypass road Patto to Khandi (Rs 17.91 crore), construction of 50 meter span motorable bridge over river Suru including approach road at Lankerchey (Rs 3 crore), construction of road from Tsarak Dho to Ralakung (Rs 27 crore), construction of road from Dachey to Shakardo in the block of Shankar Chiktan (Rs 28 crore) and construction of link road from airport road Kurbothang to Khardong Shakulchey Pashkum (Rs 16 crore).
In Leh district, the roads which have been sanctioned by the Centre under CRIF comprised improvement of Choglamsar Hamis road under phase-II having a cost of Rs 18 crore in MDR category, construction of road from Lingshed to Dipling (Rs 13.54 crore), Construction of road from Hunderi to Schaxhey Taknak (Rs 12 crore), construction of road from Nee to Sriyul (Rs 9 crore), Construction of road from Lingshed to Lingshed Dho (Rs 21.38 crore), construction of link road from Skumpata Yokma village to Sungru Dho including 70 meter span bridge (Rs 14 crore), construction of road to Bogdang Phoo—Phase II (Rs 11.89 crore), construction of road from Digger to Kongkala with steel bridge in Nubra (Rs 12.32 crore), construction of road from Sudha to Photoksar via Askuta (Rs 26.77 crore).
