Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat on Tuesday said there is a need to be more sensitive towards persons with disabilities, PwDs, to ensure their holistic participation in the electoral process.
Addressing a National Consultation on Accessible Elections in New Delhi, Mr Rawat said, inclusion of PwDs in the electoral process has been one of the core areas of the Commission for long. It holds a prominent status under its strategic plan 2016-2025.
He said, PwDs friendly communication strategies and requisite amenities targeted right to the polling station level for them are being given priority.
Post consultations, a national report will be prepared taking into account suggestions with short, medium and long term action points aimed at inclusive elections.
On the occasion, a mobile app C-vigil was also launched to encourage people to report malpractices during the election.
He said, person’s identity who will report about use of money, liquor or anything wrong during the elections, will be kept secret.
